The aim of this exercise is to test a cadets ability to:
- Confidently follow a route card;
- Accurately rely on pacing measurements;
- and Practice Magnetic Bearings.
Contained in the PDF is a DS solutions table of answers, a diagram / map of the area required and the routes that each route card follows, as well as a copy of the student route cards. To conduct this exercise, you will need the following:
- A large outdoor space capable of supporting the activity. Check the route card map in the PDF to confirm your area is big enough. A football pitch would be plenty of space, provided the half way line runs East - West
- 1x copy of the DS solutions and route card map (included in the PDF)
- Multiple copies of the student route cards / answer sheets (included in the PDF)
- Letters A - F printed and laminated (for weather proofing) (not included)
- 6x tent pegs to hold the A - F letters into the ground
- Minimum of 25m tape rule to measure out the 25m base line
- Compass to align the baseline East - West
- 1x compass per student
- 1x pencil per student
